Independent Sales Partner – Energy & Process Industries

Houston, Texas | Flexible | Commission Only | Up to 40% Commission | Remote

About Drawboard

Drawboard is a PDF and collaboration company helping people and teams get their best work done without paper. Since 2011, we’ve helped millions of people mark up, review and collaborate on documents and drawings through Drawboard PDF and Drawboard Projects.

Drawboard Projects brings collaborative design review into one live workspace, helping teams review technical drawings, coordinate feedback, manage revisions and keep everyone working from the same information.

We’re an Australian-founded software company with a growing international customer base, and we’re now looking for someone on the ground to help build our presence across Houston’s energy and process industries.

About the opportunity

We’re looking for an Independent Sales Partner to help become Drawboard’s commercial presence in Houston, with a focus on oil & gas, petrochemical, midstream, EPC and engineering organisations where P&IDs, technical drawings and complex design reviews are part of everyday work.

This is an independent, commission-based opportunity rather than a traditional full-time sales role. You’ll use your existing industry relationships and experience to identify prospective customers, open doors and help develop opportunities for Drawboard. You may have started your career in engineering before moving into technical sales, account management, business development or consulting; what matters is that you understand the industry, can speak credibly with engineers and have relationships that can create new business sales.

There are no set hours and no expectation that this needs to be your primary role. You’ll have support from Drawboard’s wider team to demonstrate the product and progress opportunities, while using your network and knowledge of the Houston market to get us into the right conversations.

What you’ll do
  • Develop new business opportunities across Houston’s energy and process industries, particularly oil & gas, petrochemical, midstream, EPC and engineering organisations
  • Introduce Drawboard to relevant companies and decision-makers within your existing network
  • Identify the teams, projects and workflows where Drawboard could deliver the greatest value
  • Build relationships across engineering, process, I&C, drafting, document control, project delivery and senior leadership
  • Understand how prospective customers currently work with P&IDs and technical drawings, including review, markup and revision workflows
  • Work with the Drawboard team to demonstrate Drawboard Projects and translate capabilities such as P&ID component detection and the tag register into clear customer value
  • Help navigate complex organisations and identify who influences and owns decisions around engineering and drawing tools
  • Where appropriate, stay involved throughout the sales process and help progress opportunities through evaluation, negotiation and close
  • Represent Drawboard within your industry network and at relevant Houston events and associations
  • Bring market and customer feedback into Drawboard, helping shape our product, positioning and go-to-market approach

Unlike our full-time Business Development Manager role - https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/4476268220/ - we’re not looking for high-volume prospecting or a prescribed level of activity. The value you bring is your network, technical credibility and understanding of the industry.

About you

We’re looking for someone who combines technical credibility, a strong Houston network and commercial instincts.

You’ll ideally have:

  • Experience working in or selling into oil & gas, petrochemical, midstream, process engineering or EPC organisations
  • A degree in chemical, process, mechanical or instrumentation engineering, or equivalent experience within a plant, EPC or engineering environment preferred
  • Strong knowledge with P&IDs and the ability tox speak credibly with process, instrumentation and project engineers
  • Experience in business development, territory sales, account management, consulting or another customer-facing commercial role
  • An established network across Houston’s operators, EPCs, engineering contractors, vendors or process-industry community
  • The ability to use existing relationships to open doors and create genuine commercial opportunities
  • An understanding of how operators, EPCs and engineering organisations evaluate and buy technical products
  • The ability to engage both technical users and commercial decision-makers and translate technical problems into business value
  • A self-directed approach and the ability to work independently without the structure of a traditional sales organisation

Experience with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, SmartPlant, AVEVA, CADWorx or similar engineering and design tools would be particularly valuable. Experience selling software or other technical products is also valuable, but previous SaaS sales experience is not essential. Active involvement in ISA, AIChE, SPE, the Pipeliners Association, ECC or similar industry groups would be highly regarded.

What success looks like

Initially, success means helping Drawboard get into the right conversations across Houston’s operators, EPCs and engineering organisations. You’ll introduce us to relevant people within your network, identify where there is a genuine fit and help us understand how best to approach the market.

Over time, we’d like you to become a trusted independent partner for Drawboard in Houston: someone who knows the industry, knows the people and can help us establish a meaningful position within the energy and process-engineering market.

Compensation

Commission only | Up to 40% of first-year revenue

This is an independent, commission-only opportunity, with no set hours or prescribed working week. There’s no requirement for this to be your only role.

Depending on your involvement in an opportunity, commission can be up to 40% of first-year revenue from new customers you originate, with the exact structure agreed upfront.

Why Drawboard?

You’ll be working with a small, experienced team with an established product, a live customer story in Houston and a significant opportunity to grow our presence in the US. Rather than joining a traditional sales organisation, you’ll have the flexibility to use your existing relationships and industry experience to build something with us on your own terms.

If you’re an experienced engineer, technical salesperson, business developer or industry professional who knows Houston’s energy and engineering community and has relationships you think could create opportunities for Drawboard, we’d like to hear from you.
