Software Engineer - Workspaces & Dashboards
Software Engineering · Full-time
Christchurch, New Zealand
Posted on Sep 10, 2026
The best AI assistant doesn’t just sound intelligent. It helps people get to a useful answer quickly and confidently.
At Phocas, we’re building what’s next in financial planning and analytics: products that help people understand their business data, make better decisions, and take action.
Our team is building Workspaces, an AI assistant that lets customers ask questions about their business in natural language. Behind the scenes, that means understanding what they’re asking, finding the right data, carrying out the analysis, creating useful visualisations, and explaining the result clearly.
We’re also connecting those experiences across Phocas, so insights found in Workspaces can flow naturally into Dashboards and other parts of the product.
This is a fast-moving space with plenty still to figure out. We’re looking for an engineer who is curious, learns quickly, enjoys working with AI, and wants to help shape how these products evolve.
What you’ll do
The people: Ask anyone at Phocas what they love most about working here, and you’ll get the same answer every time.
10% PD time: One day a fortnight dedicated to learning and development.
Sunny Sydenham office: Spacious, central, with parking for cars, bikes, and scooters.
Benefits: Southern Cross health insurance, life, TPD and income protection, extra paid parental leave, and more.
Phocas is an Accredited Employer and we support international talent, but due to current visa settings and processing times, we can only consider applicants with current New Zealand working rights.
Recruiters, please note: We don’t accept unsolicited agency resumes.
Phocas Software is a profitable, growing SaaS company with a loyal customer base and a category-leading product. With a clear path toward scaling from $70M to $250M and a reimagined GTM structure, this is a prime moment to join and shape the future of how we deliver value to customers.
We know that fun is different for everyone. So, if you want to try out innovative approaches to sales, lead a project, save the planet, or spend more time with your favourite people outside work, you’ll have our full support.
As long as you’re doing what brings you joy, the rest falls into place. Think less stress, higher performance, more energy and all-round nicer human. Your friends and family will be delighted.
