THE ROLE
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to develop, evolve and maintain our NowGo product - our carrier facing route optimisation and fleet management softwared logistics/freight operations. You will build and manage a robust sales pipeline, cultivate strong relationships, and contribute to Shippit’s long-term business growth.
DAY TO DAY
As our new Senior Software Engineer, you would typically:
- Own substantial features from concept to delivery, working closely with a cross-functional team and drawing on past experiences with relevant technologies.
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code and tests, and maintain coding standards and guidelines to ensure high-quality products.
- Coach, mentor, and - at times - lead other developers to increase their understanding, impact, and capability, including pair programming and code review.
- Continuously learn and apply new technologies and industry trends to improve the development process and keep the team on the cutting edge of full-stack development.
- Participate in all phases of the software development cycle, including analysis, design, development, debugging, testing, and deployment.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
- Experience as a professional programmer, and proficiency in a modern software programming language and development practices.
- Experience mentoring and training other developers on different teams on best practices.
- Strong problem-solving capabilities.
- Strong communication skills.
- Proven experience in self initiated learning, picking up new concepts and learning from and sharing knowledge with others.
- Enjoys analysing complex problems to find simple solutions.
- Excited to work closely with product, design, and users with empathy and kindness.
- Willingness and ability to participate in our on-call roster (one week every 2 months).
Desirable experience & skills:
- Experience with our core languages or technologies: Scala, Python, Typescript/Javascript, Ember, Ionic Framework, Capacitor.
- Experience delivering high-reliability web APIs.
- Experience in the logistics industry.
- Experience working with geographic or telemetry data.
- Experience in Cloud-based development and devops practices (AWS, Terraform etc).
We’re not expecting candidates to have all of the above, but relevant experience in any area is advantageous.
