THE ROLE & THE TEAM
As the Platform Engineering Lead, you will set the direction of Shippit's platform and roadmap. You will lead a team of Platform Engineers to simplify, consolidate, and scale our technology, driving cross-team adoption and accelerating product delivery. You will act as the primary contact in our company for all things platform and are willing to be hands on when it is needed.

DAY TO DAY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Partner with our Product and Engineering teams to deliver platform solutions that accelerate our product builds and releases.
  • Partner with your fellow team leads to build and foster a culture of engineering excellence.
  • Manage supplier relationships and contracts related to Shippit's platform, including, but not limited to: Auth0, Buildkite, Confluent, Datadog, Vanta.
  • Manage the Platform team: 1:1s, capacity planning, performance management.
  • Lead the day to day tasks of the Platform team, resolving items off the critical path, roadmapping, and code reviews.
  • Lead Shippit's incident response and drive improvements from post-incident reviews.
  • Design and implement cloud solutions that focus on availability, security, reliability and performance.
  • Design and implement solutions for security controls and frameworks and participate in third-party audits of our platform.
  • Champion good practices, continuous improvement, technical excellence — from improving response times to engaging with teams to set SLAs.

OUR IDEAL SHIPPSTER

  • At least 8 years of professional experience in Platform Engineering, DevOps Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience maintaining Kubernetes clusters and AWS environments in production using infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/Pulumi/CloudFormation).
  • Experience in scripting and automation using Bash, Go, Python and implementing via CI/CD.
  • Experience setting up, tuning, and maintaining monitoring platforms such as ELK or Grafana Stack.
  • Experience with security frameworks such as SOC 2 and ISO/IEC 27001.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills; ability to translate complex technical concepts to a non-technical audience and to influence and mentor others.
  • A passion and drive for building performant, secure, and scalable cloud infrastructure.

Nice to have:

  • Relevant certifications for Kubernetes (CKA, CKAD, CKS) and/or AWS (SAA/SAP).
  • Experience managing global and diverse teams.
  • At least 2 years in a Technical Lead, Staff Engineer, or equivalent managerial role.
