We’re looking for a proactive, product-focused Java Backend Engineer who enjoys ownership, variety, and delivering meaningful features.
You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to design, build, and optimise backend systems that deliver value to both restaurants and diners.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and build scalable backend solutions using Java
- Develop and maintain serverless APIs
- Build and consume REST and GraphQL APIs
- Improve system performance, reliability, and scalability
- Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues
- Collaborate with product, frontend, and engineering teams
- Implement new features end-to-end
- Strong proficiency in Java backend development
- Experience building serverless APIs
- Solid understanding of software development principles
- Experience with REST and GraphQL APIs
- Strong experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (MySQL, Postgres, etc.)
- Performance tuning and debugging experience
- Comfortable working with Git
- Experience writing automated tests and testable code
- Familiarity with modern architectures and design patterns
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proactive, hands-on mindset
- Experience with AWS (S3, AppSync, API Gateway, Lambda, etc.)
- Experience building or working with CI/CD pipelines
- Interest in food, restaurants, and dining
- Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline
- 3–5 years’ post-degree commercial experience as a Java Developer
- Full working rights in Australia
