Company Description

etrainu is an established leader in online learning design, development, delivery and assessment founded in Australia. Delivering custom solutions to SME organisations Domestically and Internationally. Our customer-first approach is driving rapid growth in our SaaS products.

Role Description

We are currently looking for a detail-oriented Company Accountant (Revenue & Billing Focus) to join the etrainu team.

Reporting to the Head of Finance, the ideal candidate will be responsible for owning the day-to-day billing and revenue processes within a SaaS environment. You will ensure all customer contracts are accurately translated into billing, revenue is correctly recognised, and financial data is reliable to support business decision-making. The role also works closely with outsourced providers to ensure transactional accuracy and completeness.

You will contribute to our business growth in a fast paced, collaborative and energetic atmosphere. Measures of success include billing and revenue recognition accuracy, balance sheet integrity, timeliness of month-end processes, and overall contribution to the finance team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Billing and Revenue Management

  • Review customer contracts and translate commercial terms into accurate billing schedules (subscription and usage-based models), ensuring timely invoice generation, reconciliation to the general ledger, and accurate revenue recognition and deferred revenue balances.
  • Partner with internal teams on non-standard deal structures prior to invoicing, and act as the key contact for customer billing queries, investigating discrepancies and resolving issues including credit notes.

Rebates and Commission Management

  • Calculate, accrue and reconcile rebates and commissions, maintaining schedules and supporting documentation

Month-End, Balance Sheet and Audit

  • Perform month-end revenue processes and reconcile deferred revenue, ensuring completeness, accuracy and audit-ready documentation
  • Work with the outsourced bookkeeping team to maintain data integrity, and liaise with the outsourced payroll provider on employee updates
  • Prepare audit schedules and respond to auditor queries on revenue, billing and rebates

Forecasting and Cashflow

  • Support budgeting, forecasting and revenue tracking, providing variance analysis
  • Maintain short-term cashflow forecasts aligned with billing schedules and revenue timing

Use of AI and Technology

  • Leverage AI tools and automation to streamline billing, reporting and analysis, ensuring responsible and compliant use in line with company policies

Additional Responsibilities

  • Undertake ad-hoc projects and provide support across finance and operational areas as priorities evolve

Experience We Are Looking For

  • CA or CPA qualified (or substantially progressed towards qualification)
  • Solid understanding of SaaS-based billing and revenue recognition, including AASB 15
  • Hands-on experience managing month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations and deferred revenue
  • Experience reviewing customer contracts and translating commercial terms into billing schedules
  • Experience working with outsourced bookkeeping and / or payroll providers
  • Strong Excel skills and proficiency with finance / ERP and billing systems
  • Able to demonstrate strong outcomes in previous roles, e.g. clean audits, accurate revenue recognition, on-time month-end delivery
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, small team environment

About You

  • You have exceptional attention to detail and a high bar for accuracy
  • You are a strong communicator and relationship builder, comfortable explaining finance concepts to non-finance stakeholders
  • Positive 'can-do' attitude and a flexible approach to teamwork
  • You are proactive and take initiative — a self-starter who thrives on owning processes with limited oversight
  • You are a problem solver and forward thinker who looks for ways to improve, automate and simplify
  • You are curious about AI and technology and keen to apply them responsibly to finance work
  • You have excellent time management and know how to manage multiple priorities, breaking large pieces of work into manageable steps
  • You have great communication skills, both verbal and written
