The Company

etrainu is an established leader in online learning design, development, delivery and assessment founded in Australia. We deliver custom solutions to SME organisations domestically and internationally, and our customer-first approach is driving rapid growth in our SaaS products. We're leaning hard into AI, both in how we build and what we build, and the product team is at the centre of that shift.

The Role

We're hiring a Product Designer to join one of our product teams. This is a proper product design role. You'll see your projects through end to end: discovery, shaping, delivery, and go-live. You'll run real discovery with customers, prototype to test ideas before we commit to building them, detail the flows and edge cases engineers build from, and follow your work into the wild to make sure it lands. A cross-functional team works beside you all the way through: your PM, EM, Staff Engineer, and the engineers you'll ship with.

Shipping isn't enough. Winning is our customers using and getting value from what you design, and you'll share that outcome with your team. You'll report to the Head of Product. The role is based in Brisbane, with 2 days a week in our CBD office.

Responsibilities

  • Work across the whole lifecycle - discovery, shaping, delivery, and go-live. You're in it from the first customer conversation to the post-launch numbers.
  • Get hands-on in discovery. Run customer interviews and usability sessions, synthesise what you hear, and bring back insights the team can act on.
  • Build on our design system. Contribute to, govern and evolve the design system, ensuring consistency, accessibility and scalability.
  • Prototype to answer questions. Test the riskiest assumptions with cheap experiments before we commit to building anything.
  • Detail your designs. Cover the flows, states, empty states, and edge cases so engineers can build from your files without guessing.
  • Sweat the craft. Design accessible, consistent interfaces across web and mobile, working within our design system and adding to it as you go.
  • Follow your work into the wild. Watch adoption and usage after launch, join follow-up sessions with customers, and push the iteration that turns shipped into used.
  • Work closely with your PM, EM, and Staff Engineer. Bring the design perspective into how the team sets direction and holds its quality bar.
  • Use AI in your own workflow and bring ideas for where it can improve what we ship. Champion experimentation as the tooling evolves.

Experience

  • 3+ years as a Product Designer, ideally in SaaS, with a portfolio of shipped work you can walk through.
  • Hands-on with AI. You use AI tools in your design work today and you're curious about where they can take it.
  • Modern prototyping. You prototype with AI tools by default and test rough versions with real users early. You are fluent in Figma for work that needs precision.
  • Thorough by habit. Your files cover the awkward states and edge cases, and engineers can build from them without chasing you.
  • Real discovery experience. You've run customer interviews or usability sessions, or helped run them, and can show how what you learned changed a design.
  • LMS, EdTech, or compliance-focused SaaS background is a strong advantage.

About You

  • You've designed things you're proud of that actually shipped, and you can tell the story of how and why.
  • You have a point of view. You push for what you think is right and change your mind when the evidence says you should.
  • Curious beyond the pixels. You care as much about whether it got used as whether it looked good.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, and comfortable narrowing it. You don't need a ticket handed to you.
  • Calm under pressure. When priorities shift or something breaks, you help the team hold shape rather than adding to the noise.
  • Growth mindset. Hungry to improve, willing to be wrong, and open about what you don't know yet.
  • You reach for AI first to ideate, explore options, validate ideas, and check industry best practice.
